Parliament Begins First Session for the 7th Legislature in 2023

PHNOM PENH: The National Assembly of Cambodia is starting its first plenary session for the 7th legislature on the morning of August 21, 2023.

All 125 lawmakers are arriving at the National Assembly at 8 am, to commemorate the historic event in front of the National Assembly building.

The ceremony is being presided over by the King of Cambodia, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, and attended by ambassadors of friendly countries.

The official election results of the 7th parliamentary election held on July 23, 2023 show that the CPP controls 120 of the 125 seats in the National Assembly. For the first time in five years, another party gained seats, with FUNCINPEC controlling the remaining five.

Both the CPP and FUNCINPEC have unanimously accepted the results.

Dr. Hun Manet has been appointed by the King as the Prime Minister to organize the Cabinet of the seventh mandate of the National Assembly. The Cabinet is expected to be approved with a vote of confidence today.
